4 Ways Gamification Sparks Productivity in SharePoint

One of the most challenging parts of any SharePoint deployment is actually getting employees to enter and use the portal. Once they’ve entered, the next challenge is figuring out how to help them be productive within the portal. So what can organizations do to spark productivity and engagement in the portal? Analytics provide useful data for determining where weak spots exist within the portal, but it’s critical that organizations take their reporting initiatives further than just creating reports. Once these powerful reports are made, organizations need to think outside the box about how they can inspire, and encourage portal productivity among their members. One of the the most powerful ways to do this, is by using a method known as Gamification.

What is gamification?

Gamification is the application of elements of game playing (point scoring, competition with others, rules of play) to other areas of activity, as a means of encouraging engagement.

How can organizations implement gamification to increase adoption in SharePoint?

1.) Combine analytics with gamification- Create a reporting dashboard with the top 10 users and the top 5  sites within the organization and share it with all of the site owners. By integrating competition, you can inspire more portal activity.

2.) Create a “Leaderboard” in Viva Engage (Yammer) to display top Leaders in the Viva Engage (Yammer) community.

3.) Assign user rank, status, and expertise to various individuals in the portal to establish levels and inspire users to become more involved.

4.) Delegate points and achievements to users who perform valued behaviors and complete tasks in the portal.
